In Q3 2024, global smartphone shipments rose to 309.9 million units, marking a 5% year-on-year increase and the best Q3 performance since 2021. This growth was driven by major smartphone launches and improved consumer sentiment encouraging upgrades.
Samsung led the market with 57.5 million units, supported by its strengthened entry-level lineup. Apple followed closely, shipping 54.5 million units, propelled by the success of the iPhone 16 series, particularly in emerging markets. Xiaomi took third place with 42.8 million units, benefiting from strategic inventory management.
Meanwhile, OPPO and vivo secured the fourth and fifth positions, shipping 28.6 million and 27.2 million units, respectively, showing strong performance in the competitive Asia-Pacific region.
Looking ahead, Canalys predicts continued growth in 2025, driven by emerging markets and competitive pricing. However, challenges such as inflationary pressures and sustaining ultra-low-end pricing could impact profitability in mature markets.
